I am going to try and complete the 867 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats in 9-10 Days Cycling.
This entails me taking a fairly direct route, using plenty of "A" roads, especially early on in the journey.
I have read the CTC end to end pack along with plenty of other peoples accounts on the internet to come up with my own personal route.
Once I had decided my route, I used autoroute express to print out the map and driving directions. For the timings on Autoroute, I have set myself a target mph of 12 and a half hour break every four hours. I have no idea whether this will be enough, too much or not enough. Autoroute tells me that it will take me 10 days
I am going to stay in B&B accomodation, but have not booked anything yet as I do not want to tie myself to making a certain distance each day. Apparently some days you feel you could have done more, and other days you struggle to make the diatance you have set yourself.
This route may change, but this is what I am propsing:

DAY 1 Thursday June 5th:

8.42 train from Wigan to Penzance, changing at Plymouth (£25.50 from Virgin Trains 08457 222333)
Luckily my Aunt and Uncle are holidaying in Cornwall, they are going to pick me up at the Station in Penzance and deposit me at Lands end, they will then wave goodbye to me after taking the obligatory photograph
I will then join the A30 and cycle a few miles to give me a head start tomorrow, finishing in Hayle.
Total Mileage 14.4

DAY 2 Friday June 6th

Carrying on up the A30 via Cambourne, Okehampton, then using the A377 towards Crediton, where I will finish after covering 104 miles

Day 3 Saturday June 7th

Crediton, Tiverton, onto the A38, Taunton, Finishing just North of Bristol and covering 104 miles

Day 4 Sunday June 8th

A38 to Goucester, Worcester, onto the A44 and then onto the A449 through Bridgenorth, onto the A442 fininshing in Telford. Mileage for the day 95.3

Day 5 Monday June 9th

A442 from Telford to Shrewsbury, Whitchurch, now on A49. Following the A49 to Tarporley, Northwich, Warrington, Wigand and then home! to Eccleston near Chorley, get the washing machine warmed up! 76.8 miles and hopefully a warm welcome from Sarah, Matthew and Alex

Day 6 Tuesday June 10th

If I can drag myself out of my own bed, I will make my way to Preston and Join the A6, traveling through Lancaster, Kendal, the climb up to Shap, finishing the day in Carlisle. 97.5 miles
The chefs from Burnley Football Club have promised to meet me somewhere between Lancaster and Kendal with a selection of my favourite buffet items. I will sack them all if they don't show!

Day 7 Wednesday June 11th

Carlisle, Gretna, Lockerbie, Hamilton and through to the end of the day at Glasgow. 95.6 miles

Day 8 Thursday June 12th

Leave Glasgow on A82 , through Dumbarton, A 82 to Crianlarich, Ballaculish and finish in Fort William, Apparently this is going to be a tough day. Need the wind on my side! 99.4 miles may be a little optimistic

Day 9 Friday June 13th (Just realised it will be Friday 13th!!)

Depart Fort William staying on the A82 all the way to Inverness, finishing the day hopefully by taking the Cromarty to Nigg Ferry 100.4 miles

Day 10 Saturday June 14th

Join the A9 for the last push up the East coast, apparently Helmsdale is a bit of a last day test, through Wick and onto JoG. 94.1 miles

Sounds easy doesn't it!
My mum amd Dad have kindly offered to "pick me up" (maybe literally) from JoG. We will then have a nice leisurely drive back home to Lancashire on the Sunday, ready for work on the Monday!
